Deadline Reports Clayface Opens at No. 1 With $24 Million
A Villain Gets the Top Spot
DC's Clayface opened at No. 1 at the domestic box office with about $24 million from 3,458 theaters, Deadline reported, and its global start reached $43 million. James Watkins directed the R-rated Batman spinoff, with Tom Rhys Harries as actor Matt Hagen.
A Documentary Refuses to Fade
The more unusual number belonged to A24's three-hour documentary You Can See Everything, from Lance Oppenheim and Nathan Fielder. It took $19.5 million in its second weekend, up 25 percent after expanding to 2,655 theaters, for a $45.1 million total. Laika's Wildwood opened third with $11.6 million.
What the Numbers Do Not Say Yet
Deadline put Clayface's net production cost at $44 million before marketing, and audiences gave it an A minus CinemaScore. Whether it holds up past opening weekend is the open question, and one weekend does not settle it.
