Variety: Mahershala Ali Tears Up Recalling Moonlight at a London Film Festival Talk
A pause on stage
Mahershala Ali teared up on stage at the BFI London Film Festival on Saturday while recalling the young boy at the center of Moonlight, Variety reported. It happened during a Screen Talk hosted by Amon Warmann, as Ali discussed the film's dinner table scene and asked for a second to compose himself.
Why editors picked it up
Moonlight, which won Ali the first of his two Oscars, recently marked its 10th anniversary. Variety said he described the wins as "a sense of accomplishment, which is not fulfillment" and keeps the statuettes in a cabinet, out of sight.
The factual core
Two of his films are screening at the festival, Wildwood and Your Mother, Your Mother, Your Mother. Asked about Beyond the Spider-Verse, he gave nothing away, so no new details are confirmed.
