Billboard: John Mayer Signs With Mercury Records and Launches Sob Rock Records
A new home, and a label of his own
John Mayer has signed with Mercury Records and launched his own label, Sob Rock Records, in partnership with Mercury, Billboard reported on October 22. His new single, "Tom and Jerry," is due October 23.
Why the deal gets attention
It is his first solo release since the 2021 album Sob Rock, his last for Columbia, which he left in 2022. Mercury chief Tyler Arnold signed him, and Mayer said working with Arnold and his team "has already proven to be a great partnership."
What is known, and what is not
Confirmed: the deal, the single and a 21 show Sphere residency from April to June 2027. No album title or release date has been announced.
