The civic group’s namesake, Margaret C. Barnes, was later recognized in the acclaimed film The Six Triple Eight, honoring the women of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion.

Verdell’s dedication to education and empowerment led her to Texas Woman’s University, where she had a defining moment—realizing that the next generation needed to hear her voice.
