The ongoing federal investigation into the heartbreaking disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the elderly mother of Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, has taken an unexpected turn. Federal investigators have spent months analyzing various communications sent to the family and the media. The latest findings have completely shifted the direction of the active case.

According to an official FBI statement reported by Reuters, all three kidnapping-related messages and ransom notes that surfaced in the media have been deemed completely fake. Investigators determined that the notes did not originate from anyone actually connected to the 84-year-old’s disappearance. The discovery has forced law enforcement to re-examine their original theories.

The first two ransom notes, which were heavily detailed in initial reports by TMZ, demanded millions of dollars in cryptocurrency. The FBI even went so far as to deposit a small test amount into the requested account, but the funds were completely untouched. A third note claiming to feature video evidence of the abductors was also thoroughly debunked by federal tech experts.

Savannah Guthrie has used her platform on NBC to repeatedly appeal to the public for authentic answers regarding her mother’s whereabouts. Law enforcement officials are still actively searching for the armed prowler caught on doorbell footage shortly before the disappearance. The investigation remains a top priority for federal and local authorities.
