Jane Bright, a fan-favorite contestant from Survivor: Nicaragua, has passed away at the age of 71. Her daughter, Ashley Hammett, announced the news in a Facebook post on Thursday, revealing that Bright was found deceased in her home by a close friend and a county sheriff.

Bright, a dog trainer from Jackson Springs, North Carolina, gained widespread recognition during her time on Survivor’s 21st season, which aired in 2010. At 56 years old, she was the oldest contestant that season and quickly became a standout due to her resilience, survival skills, and fiery personality. She was originally part of the Espada tribe, which was divided by age, and later formed strong alliances with younger players.

One of Bright’s most memorable moments came when she extinguished the campfire after realizing she was about to be voted out—a symbolic act that resonated with fans and cemented her status as a Survivor legend. Despite finishing in sixth place, she won the Sprint Fan Favorite award, earning a $100,000 prize for her popularity among viewers.

Tributes poured in across social media following the announcement of her passing. Former Survivor contestants and fans alike expressed their condolences, with many calling her an “icon” and “one of the most entertaining players” of her season.

Bright’s journey to Survivor was not an easy one—she had applied ten times before finally being selected for Survivor: Nicaragua. Her determination and grit made her a beloved figure in the Survivor community, and her legacy continues to inspire future contestants.

While the cause of death has not been disclosed, Bright’s impact on reality television and her unwavering spirit will be remembered by fans and fellow castaways alike.
