According to Minneapolis officer Matthew Harrity, "loud sounds" had started him and officer Mohamed Noor before last Saturday's shooting of Justine Damond.
An Australian native, Justine Damond had called the police to report a suspected rape and had approached to officers car sometime after she had noticed they had arrived at the scene.
Officer Mohamed Noor, fired the fatal shot took Ms Damond's life.
According to Fred Bruno, a lawyer for Officer Harrity, said on Wednesday: "It is reasonable to assume an officer in that situation would be concerned about a possible ambush.
Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull on Wednesday requested that the US provide an explanation.
"It is a shocking killing, and yes, we are demanding answers on behalf of her family," he stated Australian TV on Wednesday.
